The Badlands National Park

Next day in the Badlands. It rained over night. The tent drew some water, but not dramatically. Today's plan is hiking on a trail. Unfortunately the planned path is impassable. The upper layer is mud. Slippery as it can be. No chance to pass the pass. Therefore time for plan B, hiking from another trailhead.

Okay, here are the inglorious details. Please see this map (PDF). The original plan was to get over the Saddle Pass, take the Medicine Root Trail to Old Northeast Road and return via the Castle Trail. Since the pass was to slippery, I took the Castle Trail (west) from Old Northeast Road and returned via Medicine Root Trail.

Taking the Castle Trail in full length, starting at dawn is a new item on my Bucket List.
